GDPR READINESS

December 2017 - June 2018

In preparation for the enactment of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), I led the readiness project for the Housing & Neighbourhoods, Property Services and Barbican Estate divisions of the department. This involved receiving training on the principles of GDPR and understanding them in the practical context of the office environment. With this knowledge, I identified all of the processes which involve the collection and use of personal information, ensured that they met with the principles of GDPR, updated data protection statements and policies where necessary and ensured the whole GDPR readiness project was well communicated for all staff members within the division. All members of staff whether junior officers or senior management were made aware of the implications of GDPR and what practical measures were being taken as a department to address it. Identifying a gap, I created a GDPR training programme specifically for our cleaners, gardeners and porters on the estate so they are aware of how GDPR might apply in their day jobs. The GDPR readiness project helped ensure that we were prepared as a department and aligned with the Corporate response. This was achieved and I was involved in handing over the work to a newly appointed data manager within the department.
